Watch the moves. First Hillary wants a NFZ. Then Gates says, Oh it's a big deal, we have to take out all their air defenses. Gates has not lifted a finger, but he is willing to escalate! Then Hillary changes her mind. Then there is the question of how our troops will be received, how we will coach them about having elections, etc. This is all "as if" we cared about the Libyans.
Actually what the Libyans want is for us to just take out, neutralize, the Libyan Air Force. Makes sense to me. They don't want our ground troops. We don't want another war.
Spare me the baloney about "act of war". We attack gas trucks in Afghanistan and wedding parties in Pakistan. Surely no-one will complain about our taking out this crazy dictator's jets on a runway.
Do you think their Eastern-Bloc pilots will fight for a madman that doesn't even have a checking account?
Objectively, what have we done for the Libyans this week? We seized $30 billion of their assets! Do you think they will ever see a dime of that $30B again? First, they will have to pay to rebuild the infrastructure their planes will destroy as Ghadaffy goes down. Then it will turn out that they have the wrong opinions. Finally, they will elect someone unreliable.
So here's what I want: Take out the Libyan Air Force, or shut-up about them bombing their own people.
